Welcome to Transport AI 2025

Transport AI 2026, the third event in this popular series, will bring together public and private sector professionals to showcase the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) for the transport and planning sectors. It will reveal the results of the first comprehensive Transport AI sector readiness survey, carried out by Landor LINKS and partners, and outline the direction of travel for local government and transport authorities, consultants and suppliers.

The Transport AI sector readiness survey

This survey – designed for local government, consultants/ engineers and suppliers – forms part of the first State of AI in UK Transport Report, produced by Landor LINKS – the results will be shared the Transport AI 2026 conference in Birmingham on 30 January. All responses will remain confidential and results will be reported in aggregate. A digital copy of the final report will be shared with all respondents.

The simple questions collect data on the current and planned use of AI – including types of AI, use cases, skills & training and resource / funding – for transport and planning professionals across the UK.

Conference

Expert-led sessions will focus on:

  • How to get an AI project funded and approved

  • How to go from a from Pilot to Production

  • Data session: using AI-ready open transport datasets

Benefits

Transport AI 2026 will provide a one-stop shop for understanding the opportunities and challenges of AI:

  • a platform for attendees to gain insights on which AI-powered products, services and tools can deliver now to help local authorities and consultants now

  • the AI development curve: how to use AI to add value by time-saving, cost-saving and automating routine tasks

  • a look ahead to coming innovation: planning an AI readiness strategy

  • understanding of the resourcing, procurement, human and ethical factors that will underpin the development and take-up of AI across the transport sector

What's going to be discussed?

AI-powered solutions have the potential to revolutionise the way we transport people and goods, to manage traffic flows and to plan and design successful places.

AI is here now in our offices, living rooms, cars and pockets.

In some areas, such as automating data entry, data collection, data analysis / visualisation, route and flow optimisation, improving safety, asset management and supporting customer service, AI is established in professional toolkits. Other scenarios, such as AI-managed Connected and Autonomous vehicles commonly travelling driverless on public roads, remain some years away.

Yet rapid advances mean that AI tools and datasets are widely available and are being used now to create and deliver products that transport and planning professionals can benefit from today.

In the Department for Transport’s Transport Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, published in June 2025, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: Artificial intelligence (AI) could be “transformative for transport”. AI can, she said, help us tackle the biggest challenges we face as a country, enabling us to reduce our carbon emissions, improve our air quality, enhance our mobility and safety, integrate transport and create new jobs and industries.

The DfT plan outlines a series of actions that "will harness the vast benefits of AI for transport", “steer future priorities for AI in transport and "support rapid and responsible implementation” of AI so that public and private sector stakeholders can unlock the value of AI across the UK.
